Program Overview

Your January in London program lasts three weeks and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in one CIEE course taught at CIEE London. Enhance your experience with extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in British culture. Live and learn in London!

London is the UK's cosmopolitan city, celebrated for its festive atmosphere and rich cultural heritage. January is the perfect time to experience the city's charm with winter markets while exploring iconic landmarks like the British Museum and the Tower of London and enjoying festivities like New Year's Day Parade. Whether you are majoring in business, science, engineering, technology, communications, psychology, health sciences, liberal arts, language, or fine arts, London is the perfect place to study abroad on winter break.

Housing

London is home to 18 universities and competition for housing is fierce. We place our students in shared apartments, dorms or, hotels. Students share twin rooms, a bathroom, and basic kitchen facilities. As space in London is limited, living spaces are compact! We are regularly impressed with the meals our students manage to create in their kitchen areas. CIEE provides bedding and kitchen packs.

Program Highlights

  • Academic Course: Take one CIEE course delivered in-person at the CIEE Center. 
  • Immersive Experiences: Participate in activities, excursions, study tours, and more that showcase your host city's culture, values, and local art, film, music, cuisine, and sports scenes. 

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in London will open doors for you to explore England's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Spend a day exploring historic locations, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, and Canterbury 
  • Embark on a sail along the Thames, marveling at iconic landmarks like the Globe Theatre, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Houses of Parliament 
  • Browse the urban markets on Sundays in Shoreditch and Petticoat Lane 

Please note: Activities are based on past programs and subject to change at CIEE's discretion to adapt to local circumstances and participant feedback. Our goal when arranging activities is always to enhance your experience.

Academics

CIEE London: Study in the Bloomsbury district, one of London’s most vibrant neighborhoods set in the academic and literary heart of the city. CIEE London features classrooms, a student lounge, a library, a study space, a student life office, an academic advising office, a café, and a garden terrace.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
